Prototyping is the first step in the life cycle of every product. Whether you're creating something from scratch or improving on an old design, a prototype lets designers test their concepts before going into the production process.

Modern prototype manufacturing has revolutionised the way that we create products in all areas. From consumer goods, to industrial - it's a game changer!

Creating a new prototype

Designing a digital model is the first step in creating a brand-new prototype. A computer-assisted design, or CAD for short is a visual representation of your future product. The designers can work on it using different types of software to make changes in size and shape before they actually manufacture the prototype.

Prototype Production Stages

1.   As we’ve said, the first step is designing a product and then engineering that concept. This can be done in-house or by employing an outside designer to make sure that everything looks great from all angles.

2.   Making the prototype – The prototype is then generated using the digital model by way of 3D printing or another manufacturing method such as casting or machining. This allows you as the client to test how well the design fits into the real world opposed to just seeing it online. Whilst prototypes of this nature are generally most advantageous for marketing presentations the evolving materials becoming available has in some instances allowed the prototype to be used as intended. The prototype stage can be tough for clients and designers alike – An experienced manufacturer will ask them questions about what they each need from an object or material before even getting started. This saves valuable time and money!

3. Once the prototype has been proven an injection moulding tool is ordered, designed and manufactured utilising our latest CNC machinery and expert knowledge. This process brings all the design work and technical planning together to craft a first off injection moulded sample that can either be refined or replicated in bulk on demand.
